i. "Hey, you're hot"
That. Is. An. Insult. I hate it when you call me something that only needs you to glance at me to determine if it's true. What happened to relationship? What happened to getting to know me? There are a thousand different shades of brown clashing and intertwining in my eyes; you can't just label them "brown". Likewise, I'm not as simple as one word; I'm a million different things... If you won't bother taking the time to find out, well, that's just too bad. I'm not going to fall for an insult in disguise.
ii. "You must like this, you're a girl"
Um, no. What I actually enjoy is running and swimming and scary movies, just like you. I also like reading and painting and drawing, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stick with the "girl" stuff. Unfortunately, you'll have to figure out what I like and dislike. (I'm okay with you making mistakes). But if you don't even try-- Goodbye.
iii. "I'm sorry, but I can't help myself"
There are no excuses for being inappropriate. Now that that's clear, I'd really like it if you listened to and adhered to any boundaries I set, okay? There is nothing saying we have to be idiots in order to have a good time together.
iv. "I'm too tough for that"
You might laugh, but I've heard that one before. No, you are not. Crying is okay, hanging out with little kids (and having a blast) is okay, and talking about what's bothering you is okay. Girls aren't the only ones who need to vent, and you know that perfectly well. I'd like to be there for you, too. this gender-role thing really wears both of us out, and you know it.

i. She's on the floor, looking up at me, telling me it hurts, it hurts, it hurts. And I'm kneeling next to her. She's holding my hand too hard and I feel my bones creaking in her grasp, but maybe I'm gripping back just as hard. I don't know what's wrong. I don't know how to fix her or even what I'm supposed to fix, but her eyes God, her eyes are breaking my heart. They're filled with pain, with fearshe's so scared and I'm begging her to look at me, look at me, look at me. Just look at me. Everything's going to be all right. I promise. I'm helpless. I can't save her, and I hate it.

I am the girl who wants to buy a Chinese lantern and set it off in your direction, just to see if you'll see it too.
I am the girl who enjoys sleep deprivation, because while she's not sleeping, she's with you.
I am the girl who breaks this into tiny pieces so she can read all your words again and again.
I am the girl who cries when she sleeps, because you're not in place of her squishy pillow that isn't warm enough to be you.
I am the girl who thinks you're perfect, despite your flaws that don't really exist to her.
